Vienna Escorted Tours 2024/2025

It’s just been voted the world’s 'most liveable' city. But Vienna’s great for a flying visit, too. Whether you’re calling in for the day as part of a Danube river cruise or perhaps spending a few nights enjoying its Christmas festivities, there’s plenty to discover.

A walk through the historic centre reveals the city’s easy-on-the-eye architecture, with baroque buildings and imperial palaces at every turn. The Kunsthistorisches Museum houses a superb collection of artworks and antiquities. And then there’s the famous café culture. Coffee houses that once welcomed great artists and musicians are still going strong today, serving their speciality roasts with side helpings of strudel and sachertorte.

It’s home to the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Vienna Boys’ Choir. Greats like Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss and Brahms have all lived or worked here, composing some of the world’s most famous melodies. And the sound of music can be heard in grand concert halls, baroque palaces and corner cafés alike.
Speaking of cafés, the coffee-and-cake culture is another feather in Vienna’s cap. Beautifully decorated coffee houses are scattered across the city, serving frothy mélange (a bit like a cappuccino), decadent cream-topped concoctions, and slabs of rich, chocolatey sachertorte.

We reckon a cup and a slice is the perfect reward after a morning of touring museums and imperial palaces…

Vienna is one of our favourite ports of call on Danube cruises. On our voyages, we tend to include a city tour followed by free time, so you’ve got a chance to explore at your own pace too. On some, there’s also an opportunity to enjoy a classical music concert or an onboard waltz lesson.
