Few other countries can compare with the magic of Italy. Whether you're looking for a two-week holiday, a tour or a short city break, Italy combines a stunning blend of all the very best ingredients to make your break a success.

So many people fall instantly in love with Italy when they visit. Whether it's the ancient ruins of Pompeii, the incredible Tuscan scenery or the mouth-watering local food, there are so many reasons why Italy makes us smile.

Providing a spectacular mix of romantic cities and charming villages, historic wonders that span over two thousand years, and utterly breathtaking landscapes that range from snow-capped mountains to aquamarine fringed coastline, our Italy tours are filled with spectacular sights, delicious food and, of course, world-class wine.

The hidden villages of Italy you need to visit

Ancient streets, prestigious wineries and dizzying views; we'll let you in on one of Italy's little secrets. Off the beaten track, a singular 'borgho' is a small and charming village with a captivating history. This is where you can get a taste of the real Italy. We know some wonderful hotels just a drive away, and have created these hot new offers so you can head out and explore one of Italy's hidden gems. Intrigued? Take a look at some of our favourites.

Monte Isola, Lake Iseo

To the west of its illustrious neighbour, Lake Garda, you'll find the smaller Lake Iseo where the island of Monte Isola sits. Think stone houses, olive groves and chestnut woods. For the best lake views, hike to the top of The Sanctuary of Madonna della Ceriola – a monastery at the isle's highest point.

Furore, Campania

You can reach the fairytale fishing borgho of Furore in just 20 minutes from Amalfi, via the region's winding coastal roads. Hidden in a fjord, this village really stands out with its cliff-clinging houses and ancient staircases that lead to the sea. You can even go diving under its iconic bridge.

Castelmola, Sicily

The real pull to the medieval borgho of Castelmola is its intoxicating views – whether that's of Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna, or the electric-blue waters of the Ionian coast. For a sweet treat, head down the main street and try a glass of local almond wine.

Bites and sights

Italy is the kind of place where you can combine cuisine and culture effortlessly.
Finish off a day in Milan with a classic risotto alla Milanese. In Rome, fit in a snack of crispy deep-fried artichokes in between the Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica. Or perhaps share a bottle of Sicilian white after a trip to Monreale’s Norman cathedral.
And, of course, you can’t forget the pasta – it is World Pasta Day, after all. Each region has its own speciality, from Apulian orecchiette (‘little ears’) to Tuscan pici (a bit like thick spaghetti) to trofie up in Liguria (which goes perfectly with the local Genoese pesto).
Not sure which region will tickle your fancy (and your taste buds) the most?

Eat your way around Italy
Here are just a few of our favourite regional specialities…

Arancini
These moreish rice balls hail from Sicily. They’re coated in crispy breadcrumbs and stuffed with all sorts of tasty fillings.

Nduja sausage
This spicy salumi comes courtesy of Calabria, the sun-drenched region that forms the toe of Italy’s boot. Enjoy it on pizza or bruschetta.

Parma ham
Prosciutto di Parma is produced in Emilia-Romagna. It’s salted and cured for at least a year, giving it its distinctive (and delicious) flavour.

Veneto wines
Veneto (home to Venice, Verona and parts of Lake Garda) turns out some of Italy’s finest wines. Our favourites? Easy-to-drink reds from Bardolino and Valpolicella.

Margherita pizza
If you’re ordering pizza in Naples, it has to be a margherita. Invented locally, its toppings (mozzarella, basil and tomato) represent the colours of the Italian flag.

Limoncello
There’s only one way to round of a meal in Sorrento: limoncello. This super-sweet liqueur is made using the area’s supersized lemons.

Italian adventures

‘Treasures of Italy’ is a 10-day whirlwind of cultural icons, grand palazzos and Roman ruins. As well as exploring the ‘Big Three’ (Venice, Florence and Rome), you’ll marvel at Verona’s amphitheatre, step inside the frescoed Basilica of St Francis in Assisi and stroll around Lucca’s ancient ramparts.

Or you might like ‘Sicily – Jewel of the Mediterranean’, which circles this diverse island. Over 10 days, you’ll see Norman churches and Greek temples, sample Sicilian wines and walk across cooled lava on the slopes of Mount Etna.

For something a little more laid-back, look to our stay and explore holidays. ‘Charm of the Dolomites’ introduces you to quaint mountain towns and delicious regional cuisine, while ‘Scenic Lake Orta’ includes a rail journey to Switzerland, a tour of little-visited Aosta and plenty of free time to relax beside one of the country’s prettiest lakes.

City of canals

Venice. Venezia. La Serenissima. It’s a city unlike any other.
Built over a marshy lagoon, its streets are criss-crossed by canals. The biggest - the aptly named Grand Canal - snakes through the heart of the city, with Venice’s grandest palazzos lining its banks.
Seeing the city from the water (on a gondola, traghetto, water bus or water taxi) is a must. But exploring on foot reveals Venice’s secret sights. Delve into the maze of backstreets and discover hidden churches, serene squares and tucked-away bacari (wine bars).

Finish up at St Mark’s Square, where you’ll find the glorious Basilica di San Marco, the Doge’s Palace and some of the most elegant cafes in the city (with prices to match!).

A phenomenal country that boasts everything from amazing cities and delicious food, to rolling countryside and glorious sandy beaches - Italy truly has it all. What's more with our smaller groups* you're guaranteed to be at the heart of incredible experiences everywhere you go – visit Matera and its ‘Sassi’ houses or make your own bread at an Italian farmhouse.
